The Company Background
Len Davies Transport is a family run livestock Haulage business, located in Cross Ash, a small village on the outskirts of Abergavenny. Established in the early 1970’s by Len Davies, the business is now run by Len’s son, Rob Davies and his direct family.
From a very early age, Callum Davies, Len’s Grandson, would accompany his Grandfather out on runs and from this experience he developed an enthusiasm for lorries and an ambition to achieve his LGV licence.
The Challenge
Callum began working at the family run company at 18 years of age but was restricted within his role since he lacked the qualifications to drive the larger vehicles.
The Solution
Through being referred to LRC Training and enrolling onto the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles, Callum was given the opportunity to obtain his Category C licence. Due to his commitment and determination to succeed, Callum passed his Category C licence within an impressive four month period.
Having completed the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship, Callum decided to further develop his skills by embarking onto the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles.
Although it proved to be more of a challenge, Callum’s enthusiasm to progress in his career did not waiver and at the age of 19, he was delighted to pass his Category C + E test also.
The Apprenticeships address a number of different industrial based needs and provided Callum with an NVQ Level 3 in Driving Goods Vehicles and a BTEC Level 3 in Road Freight Logistics.
The Results
* Callum has taken an increasingly active role in the daily running of the business.
* Callum completed many aspects of the Apprenticeships while ‘on-the-job’, providing him with nationally recognised qualifications for basic industry-based tasks.
* Callum’s success has raised his ambitions since he now aspires to undertake a Traffic Office qualification to further enhance his logistic skills.
